Exhibition entry forms are live!

Great news for members who wish to lodge their Exhibition entries online – our online entry facility went live on 1 May 2019. It has undergone extensive testing and as a result we think it is working well. If, however, you find a problem with it please let us know at admin@canberraquilters.org.au and we will try, within the software limitations, to rectify it. Many thanks to Janet Cruise for her smart and tireless work on these online forms. Thanks also to all the members who tested it for us.

Make sure you download and read the Conditions of Entry and Categories and Awards files before you start filling out the online entries.

Of course, the traditional paper forms are still available for members who don’t want to use the online facility. If you receive Connecting Threads in hardcopy you should already have the Exhibition Pack; alternatively, you can download and print the Exhibition Pack from canberraquilters.org.au which you can then complete and send in the usual way.

The Inspiration:

“While thinking about ideas to celebrate the 40 years anniversary of CQ I reflected on the changes and creative development of the sewing bag. Remember in the 70’s and 80’s everyone had a lined sewing basket?

A receptacle for one’s sewing notions and work in progress is a very necessary part of the quilter’s ‘must have’ as the quilter needs to quilt wherever she or he is. – Attending workshops, meetings, retreats, friendship groups, visiting, travelling and so it goes. Over the years I have seen some amazing examples of innovation and imagination.”

Wendy Saclier

Challenge 2015 – Send me a Message

130- Canberra Narrative - Celebrating a Century, Frances Buscombe

April 22, 2015 | Posted in Exhibition | By

Every year Canberra Quilters has a quilt challenge theme category at the exhibition. For 2015 the theme chosen by the main committee is ‘Send me a Message’.

Members can choose to respond to the theme anyway they like in their quilt as long as it meets the size requirements of 70cm x 50cm, portrait or landscape orientation. The challenge quilts generally travel as a group to other quilt groups during the subsequent year.

There are many ways you could send a message – a love letter written on the quilt, some social phenomenon that you want to make comment upon. A coded message through language, colour or blocks. The quilt itself could be the message – peace, the environment or landscape, commercialism, influence of social media, a portrait of your city or loved one. There are many possibilities for you to consider. What would you like to say?

Enter your items in the Annual Members Exhibition, held in August 2015. You have until June to submit an entry. The entry pack will be available in mid 2015 with Connecting Threads and online. Only financial members as at 31 March are eligible to enter the exhibition.

Some previous years’ challenge quilts:

Art Quilters meeting – 13 September

September 11, 2014 | Posted in Art Quilters Canberra | By

The Art Quilters resume meeting this Saturday after their break for the exhibition. Meeting starts at 1pm, until 4pm.

Please bring your response to the challenge of putting words into your work … it doesn’t have to be a quilt … it could be a postcard, or a little book, or anything else that you could add words to.

Just a reminder of what the challenge was:  using two resources provided by Wilma (Quotes Illustrated by Lesley Riley and Embellish/ issue 18) we talked about producing a small work based on using words in a quilt.  It could be a phrase or saying or even just one word … currently, just basing the work on the word PEACE would be appropriate.
