A message from Valerie Merritt, Exhibition Co-ordinator:
So this is a very friendly reminder that if you have some of those lovely hand crafted items to sell, you must submit an ‘Intention to Sell’ form by Friday 30 July 2021, (available on the CQ website). After that date an ‘Inventory Form’ will be forwarded to you with your barcodes and guidelines regarding barcode ticketing, pricing and tagging.
The dates for our Exhibition have reverted to the original September dates of 23th -26th.
The deadline for entries is 30th July.
Anyone needing help filling in the Exhibition Entry on-line form or having difficulty reducing the size of a photo is welcome to pop into our rooms between 2pm-4pm on Sunday 18th July. Our President, Katie Ley and the Exhibition Coordinator, Valerie Merrittt will both be there to help. Make sure you bring all your details, including the size of your quilt.
Some key dates are:
- 30 July – closing date for submitting entries
- 11 September – delivery day at CQ room at Cook
- 22 September - Sales Room delivery day at EPIC
- 23-26 September – Exhibition days at EPIC
AQC dates and venue have also changed again due to a number of factors (venue, AFL Grand Final affecting flights and accommodation). It will be at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre (MCEC) on December 2 to 5, 2021
Canberra Quilters have been advised that our exhibition dates have changed as a consequence of the Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair being moved (due to COVID, of course).
Our new dates are September 30 – October 3.
Further information on any changes to our key dates (e.g. entry date deadline), will be advised when the sub-committee and main committee have a chance to consider all the consequences of the date change.
Below is information from an email from Gary FitzRoy of Expertise Events, with details of a number of date changes. The CQ Exhibition Co-ordinator, Valerie Merritt, asked that this information be made available to members.
- Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair moves to 1-5 September at Sydney Showgrounds, Sydney Olympic Park.
- Australian Quilt Convention (AQC) moves to 23-26 September and has a venue change to the new section of Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
- New Zealand Craft and Quilt Fair rolled to September 2022.

The Canberra Quilters Members’ Exhibition opens today, as part of the Craft and Quilt Fair. It runs until 18 August, 10am until 4.30pm each day at EPIC, Flemington Road, Mitchell ACT.
Don’t forget the revised traffic arrangements because of the light rail.
Please come along to check out all the quilts and clothing exhibited, the sales room and also the craft fair. From 11am today on this website there will be images of quilts that have won their categories, as well as all the special awards.
At the main desk at the quilt show you can purchase a USB stick with images of all the entries in the show.
Don’t forget you can buy a ticket in the CQ raffle. Prizes include a quilt by Kay Provins (pictured), a Bernina sewing machine (value $699) or a hamper of sewing goodies.
Every year Canberra Quilters has a quilt challenge theme category at the exhibition. For 2018 the theme chosen by the main committee is ‘Blue & White’.
Members can choose to respond to the theme any way they like in their quilt as long as it meets the size requirements of 70cm x 50cm, portrait or landscape orientation. The challenge quilts generally travel as a group to other quilt groups during the subsequent year.
You are invited to make a quilt in the challenge format, incorporating the idea of ‘Blue & White’. You may choose to make it from all the shades and tones of blue, and white. Or you may focus on-
- the sea /ocean / sky
- something in the garden
- blue and white china (Blue Willow, Delftware)
- gemstones (blue diamond, sapphire)
- bluesy music
- choose an appropriate block or
- play on the words
You have many paths you could follow in making your quilt.
Enter your items in the Annual Members Exhibition, held in August 2018. You have until June to submit an entry. The entry pack will be available in mid 2018 with Connecting Threads and online.
The challenge theme for 2019 has also been selected: “Off the Sheep’s Back”. So get ready for August 2019!
