Evening Meeting – 2 November

October 31, 2017 | Posted in Meetings, membership | By

The evening meeting is this Thursday, 3 November, 7pm for a 7.30pm start, in the Hall at the Cook Community Hub. The meeting starts with formal committee (and other) reports and news, followed by an activity.

Have you ever thought about selling your handmade creations? Then this is the meeting for you. We learn from the highly successful CQ Sales Room about how members can get involved in the 2018 Sales Room. We also talk with a panel of Canberra Quilters Members about how to price your handmade items, the impact of underpricing handmade and why it’s important to price items correctly.

Please bring something along for show & tell. We all like to see what everyone is working on.

All the usual meeting fun- lucky door prize, badge draw, raffle and regular show and tell. Don’t forget to stay and chat over a cuppa and check out the show and tell.

Membership renewals fall due on 1 January. Why not renew early at the meeting?

The exhibition raffle is over for another year- perhaps you or your friendship group would consider making the raffle quilt for next year! Talk to the Exhibition Co-ordinator Julie Ricketts.

Library will be open for this meeting, so stock up for some spring projects.

Wonderful Wednesday meeting 18 January 2017

January 12, 2017 | Posted in Meetings, membership | By

Members are getting back into the swing of things for the new year. Some are participating in Resolution Week (9-15 Jan), finishing older things, starting new projects.

The first formal meeting of the year is the Wonderful Wednesday Meeting on 18 Jan, in the Cook Community Hub Hall. As well as being our first meeting of the year, it is the first activity in the room since the floor has been refinished and varnished. We have been asked not to wear stiletto heeled shoes (!) in the hall and not to drag chairs, tables or anything else across the floor. Please ask for help to lift and carry objects.

Wonderful Wednesday is held on the third Wednesday of the month, except December, in the Cook Community Hub Hall from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. It is a great opportunity for a chat and doing those handwork projects.

The Wonderful Wednesday meeting is followed by a drop-in in the CQ room until 4pm.

The special show & tell is quilts and items from the Rowmakers design group, from last year or previous years.

Don’t forget that junior members are able to attend this meeting.

All the usual fun with Lucky Door prize, name badge draw and raffles. Membership renewals are due on 1 January, so catch up with the membership secretary at this meeting.

Evening Meeting – 4 February: teachers and sponsors

January 31, 2016 | Posted in CQ Administration, Meetings, membership | By

The first evening meeting of the year is on Thursday 4 February, 7pm for a 7,30pm start, in the Cook Community Hub Hall. This is sit down formal meeting (as opposed to the sit and sew meetings held in the daytime).

There are two special attractions at this meeting:

  • there is a library fund sale. Excess books, DVDs and patterns from the library will be for sale in the hall, as well as donated books magazines and patterns from members. All money raised goes to future library purchases. It is not too late to donate items – just put them in the library returns box in the days leading up to the meeting or give them to librarian Beth on the night. Don’t forget to bring some money to snap up a bargain!
  • teachers and sponsors let us know there plans for the year – classes, workshops, fabric releases, sewing machines etc.

There is the usual fun at the meeting – announcements, lucky door prize, name badge draw, raffles as well as supper after the meeting.

You can join or renew your membership at the meeting. Membership is from 1 January to 31 December each year, so renewals are now overdue! You need to be a financial member to stand for committee or vote at the AGM on 3 March. You also need to be a member by 31 March in order to exhibit and sell at the Annual Exhibition in August.
