Wonderful Wednesday meeting: 18 September

The next meeting is this Wednesday, 18 September, in the BALLET SCHOOL at the Cook Community Hub, from 9.30am until 12.30pm. It is followed by a drop-in at the Canberra Quilters room. The library is open for the first half of the drop-in. We are meeting in the Ballet School because the Ballet School are conducting examinations in the Hall.

This drop-in is also when the Appliqué Group meets. The Appliqué Group is for members who like to do appliqué – learning from each other, getting help or working on a current project. You don’t have to be part of this group to come to the drop-in.

Don’t forget to bring something for show & tell.

For new members, Wonderful Wednesday is held on the third Wednesday of each month except December, normally in the Hub Hall from 9.30am till 12.30pm. It is a good opportunity to do some handwork and meet for a chat. We have Raffles, Lucky Door Prize, and Name Badge Draw, some of the most wonderful morning tea fare and a themed Show and Tell plus the regular Show and Tell.

If you are a newcomer or you haven’t been for a while PLEASE come and sit at Christine’s table (WW convener) where ever that may be, until you get better acquainted with the other members.

This month we will revisit the recent exhibition – so bring along your exhibition quilts for a special show and tell.

The next meeting of the Small Japanese Projects group is on 24 July, from 10am-noon, in the CQ room at Cook Community Hub.

The Small Japanese Projects interest group is for members interested in all things Japanese. Each month (or over two months) you will work on a small project, lead by a member of the group.

The meeting begins with a show and tell of what you have made, purchased or done during the previous months. It is always great to hear about your activities.

The next meeting will be a general catch up with members working on their own projects.

The meeting is followed by a drop-in until 4pm. The English Paper Piecing (EPP) group meets as part of the drop-in.

Small Japanese Projects Meeting: 22 May

The next meeting of the Small Japanese Projects group is on 22 May, from 10am-noon, in the CQ room at Cook Community Hub.

The Small Japanese Projects interest group is for members interested in all things Japanese. Each month (or over two months) you will work on a small project, lead by a member of the group.

The meeting begins with a show and tell of what you have made, purchased or done during the previous months. It is always great to hear about your activities.

This month’s project is a very cute Japanese inspired thimble which will be perfect for pushing those threaded sashiko needles through your sewing projects. Di Ballantyne will be leading the project

 Preparation & Requirements List

Start by measuring around your thimble finger and adjust the following measurements if needed. The felt needs to be able to go around your finger and meet/touch.

  • A strip of fabric measuring 1 inch x 2 ¾ inches
  • 2 pieces of coordinating/contrasting felt (preferably wool felt) measuring ¾ inch x 2 ¼ inches.
  • A piece of thin (hat) elastic long enough to go around your finger and tie a knot.
  • Embroidery threads to embellish the fabric before assembling the thimble
  • Sewing thread for assembling the thimbleUsual sewing bits and bobs ( needles,scissors, threads,pins etc)

The meeting is followed by a drop-in until 4pm. The English Paper Piecing (EPP) group meets as part of the drop-in.

Evening Meeting – Thursday, 2 May

CQ Member Elizabeth Rose will be speaking about her quilts and love of gadgets.

Don’t forget to pick up a book (or books) of tickets for the exhibition raffle. This is a major fund raiser for Canberra Quilters and we will need lots of tickets sold.

Please bring something along for show & tell. We all like to see what everyone is working on.

All the usual meeting fun – lucky door prize, badge draw, raffle and regular show and tell. Don’t forget to stay and chat over a cuppa and check out the show and tell.

Evening Meeting: 4 April

Guest speaker will be long time sponsor Trevor Robertson, AKA the Scissorman. Come along to learn about scissors, cutters and other gadgets.

Please bring something along for show & tell. We all like to see what everyone is working on.

You can also pick up your exhibition raffle tickets. If every member sells a book we will be well on the way to a great fund raising effort. Funds raised support Canberra Quilters ongoing operations.
