Wonderful Wednesday – 20 April

April 17, 2016 | Posted in Meetings, What's On | By

The next Wonderful Wednesday meeting is on 20 April, 9.30am- 12.30pm in the hall at the Cook Community Hub.

All the usual fun – morning tea, raffle, lucky door and name badge draw. The special themed show and tell is most loved quilts. Perhaps these quilts are a bit worn due to their use but still worthy of being shown off.

There will also be a display of books, magazines and patterns that were available in the early years of Canberra Quilters. Come along for some nostalgia (like the Mission Brown quilt in the banner).

Modern Quilt group meets tonight- 10 March

March 10, 2016 | Posted in modern quilters, What's On | By

The Modern Quilt group will meet tonight in the CQ room, starting at 7.30pm. Tonight’s activity:

Jenny will be demonstrating a very simple system for an organic curved block. If people want to try it they can bring some 6 1/2 inch squares in colours they like. Half the squares could be considered background. It works particularly well with batiks.

Bring your show and tell, as usual, and your machines if you want to try what Jenny is showing. Or you can just watch the demonstration and try it at home.

Resolution Week (11-17 Jan) starts…

January 11, 2016 | Posted in QFO, What's On | By

A group of Canberra Quilters signed up to sew the week away in the Canberra Quilters’ room. We are using our own machines, but there is room if you want to come to do some hand sewing, baste a quilt on the pinning table or just drop in for a chat.

The room is open 9.30am-4pm, tomorrow to Sunday, inclusive.

Some members are using the time to start new things. Others (your truly) are using the time to finish things. Today I got the quilting underway on a QFO quilt that I have had signed out for a very long time. Quilt top is by Judy Turner. Here is a glimpse:

November 10, 2015 | Posted in Exhibition, What's On | By

To coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign, Manly Art Gallery & Museum is hosting WAR-TIME QUILTS: Quilts from Military Fabrics from the Annette Gero Collection, from 3 July – 22 November 2015. The quilts in the exhibition have been assembled by Dr. Annette Gero, who has been documenting and collecting quilts since 1982.

This very rare collection of ‘war quilts’, made by active soldiers and prisoners of war from pieces of disused uniforms, army blankets and other discard military fabrics, includes quilts dating from the Napoleonic Wars (1803-15), the Crimean War (1853-56) and World Wars One and Two.
