Canberra Quilters has started a Beginners Interest Group to help those new to patchwork to develop their skills. It is aimed at quilters who have done a beginners course and want to move on to something else. The first meeting was on the 3rd Wednesday evening in November, and the third Wednesday evening will be the regular time slot. For December it will be on 14 December, starting at 7.30pm.
This time the demonstration & try out will be about English Paper Piecing (EPP), lead by Patricia Butron and Anne Eccleston. Patricia will provide the pre-cut papers. Participants need to bring fabric scraps (at least 4″/ 10cm square), pencil, pins, scissors, needle and thread. QFO have donated some of their excess fabric to help the beginners achieve some fabric variety.
Elizabeth Scroope will be demonstrating binding a quilt, using a QFO quilt. This is a demonstration only.
The gathering is in the Canberra Quilters room at Cook Community Hub, starting at 7.30pm
Some info from Jenny Bowker, one of the convenors of the beginners group:
On Wednesday 16th November – today for most of you reading this – we are starting a Beginners Group at Canberra Quilters. At 7.30pm at the Cook Community Hub (the old Primary School behind the Cook shops) we have several Canberra Quilters showing some easy techniques.
I have something to show – a play with multiple simple blocks. I will be a bit late so other demonstrations are first.
We want to see more people starting our wonderful craft – so come along and bring a friend. It is fun and it is easy.
