UFO Pledge 2015

Most quilters have them – a UFO, WIP or PhD. Whether you call them an UnFinished Object, a Work In Progress or a Project half-Done, somewhere in a quilter’s life there are quilts that have been discarded before they have been finished.

It might be a top that needs completion, then quilting and binding. Or a finished top that needs quilting and binding. You as a maker have run out of interest in it and it  lies at the bottom of the pile or tucked away in the back of the cupboard – unloved and just wanting a bit of attention to make it complete.

Well, here is your opportunity – commit to completing that quilt in 2015 by signing up for the UFO pledge. Canberra Quilters ran the pledge in 2009 and 2010 and again in 2013 and 2014. It is back for 2015.

You will need to nominate a specific project on the pledge and be ready to show the completed quilt at an end-of-year meeting. The project needs to have already started! You may choose to show the incomplete UFO and tell the story at a meeting in 2015. In the past some members have chosen to break their pledge into parts. For example, completing the hand appliqué for a top one year and then quilting and finishing the quilt the next year.

You sign the Pledge and hand it in to Liz Rose by the end of February 2015. You are committing to complete the quilt, or in some complex cases, the top, and reveal it at the November Wonderful Wednesday meeting or the December 2015 evening meeting.

Want help, support, guidance or just space?

To help you stay motivated and work on your UFO the 3rd and 4th Wednesday afternoon drop-ins will be designated ‘UFO Days’ in 2015. Come along for some help and to offer support for others. You may want to use the design walls in the room to help you with layout. Or you could use the pinning table when the time has come to put your 3 layers together. You don’t have to come to the ‘UFO Days’ – you could use any of the drop-in days to work on your UFO.

Blank pledge certificate was in the December issue of Connecting Threads, in the Canberra Quilters’ room and to download
