ROWMakers is a Special Interest Group based on an annual challenge. The group meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 10am until noon between February and November in our rooms at Cook. Email updates are sent after each meeting for those who can’t make it.
All Canberra Quilters members are welcome. The aim of the group is for each member to design and make an original quilt during the year and at the same time have a lot of FUN. It’s all about creativity, flexibility, sharing and friendship. It’s a chance to use some of your stash, expand your quilting horizons, use that ‘special’ fabric… and rediscover your quilting mojo!
The quilts can be any size – cot, lap, wall hanging, bed – or something else entirely such as a set of placemats or even a jacket. There are no hard and fast rules, just guidelines.
This year we will be including the option to make feature blocks as well. The ingredients are chosen by randomly selected group members from predetermined lists. It could be something like (red and flowers) or (stripes and applique) or (curves and blue). The interpretation of these ingredients is left entirely up to the participant. In fact innovative interpretations are actively encouraged and generate the most oohs and aahs at the following month’s Show and Tell. We produce amazing quilts… sometimes even their creators are surprised by the results! Some of our quilts can be viewed at the Annual Exhibition.
