Quilts for Others was set up in 2000 to coordinate the making and distribution of quilts to the disadvantaged, underprivileged and disabled in the ACT region. Recipients include charities, children’s organisations, nursing homes, and women’s and children’s refuges. Some 250 quilts are distributed during the year.
Working bees, during which all aspects of quilt-making are undertaken, are held at the Cook premises on the second Tuesday of the month. Tasks include piecing, cutting, pinning and hand sewing. All members and guests are welcome to attend.
Fabric is donated by members and the community, and batting is provided by Canberra Quilters. Kits for quilts at various stages of completion are available at meetings for those who wish to work at home.
QFO also participates in the annual Canberra Quilters Exhibition, demonstrating quilt-making techniques on sewing machines supplied by Bernina Australia.
