Map Project textile exhibition- Belconnen Arts Centre

Members may be interested in this opportunity from Belconnen Arts Centre (The Map Project – Where I Live):

Textile groups from the ACT and region are invited to respond collaboratively to the concept of: “mapping: where I live;” by exploring ideas of home, place and belonging. Entrants are encouraged to engage playfully, thoughtfully, radically, or somewhere in between. We invite investigation and interpretation of geography, culture, history and community relationships along with the personal perceptions and meanings of living and being at home through the tactile, rich and varied medium of textiles.

Call for Entries – World Quilt Competition 2016

World Quilt Competition 2016

Australian quilters have the opportunity to enter the World Quilt Competition and have their work tour in the United States to quilt shows run by Mancuso Show Management. Accepted entries will premiere at the World Quilt New England  (18-20 August 2016).

AUSTRALIA’S INTERNATIONAL QUILTING EVENT

Are you ready to be a star? Announcing three exciting opportunities for YOUR work to be on show at AQC 2016!

Get busy and get stitching, and you could have your own quilt or textile art piece on display at Australia’s premier quilting event, admired by thousands of visitors from around the country and further afield.

Closing date for all online entries is February 25, 2016

AQC challenge 2016

Challenge yourself and explore your creativity within a theme in this prestigious annual challenge.

The theme is ‘Tradition with a Twist’ and if selected as a finalist, your quilt will tour Australia and New Zealand throughout the year. A prize pool of $5,500 is up for grabs with winners awarded on interpretation of theme, excellence in design, craftsmanship, and a Viewers’ Choice.

Quilt size is 90cm square.

Mini-Textile Art Challenge: Paws & Whiskers

We invite you to show your best friend in their best light, in textiles!

Traditional and contemporary works using creative textile techniques including patchwork, embroidery, appliqué, surface design, photo transfer, printing, etc, will all be considered. The winner will receive a fabulous Fiskars prize pack valued at more than $200.

The work must have at least two layers and the size is 25cm square.

If you have completed a kaleidoscope quilt and would like to be part of the AQC Quilt Show, send information and an image of your quilt for consideration. This is a non-judged exhibition – our aim is to create a spectacular display of millefiore colour.

Your quilt does not need to be finished for online entry, but if selected for display it must be finished and sent to Expertise Events before March 25, 2016.

Quilt can be any size and does not have to be your original design.

Royal Canberra Show 2016 – entries due soon

Entries for the quilting and patchwork categories in the Royal Canberra Show are due on 17 December (Thursday). After that entries attract a late fee of $20. The normal entry fee is $8 for the first entry & $5 for each additional entry. Entrants over 65 years of age have a flat rate of $4 per entry.

Art Quilters Meeting – 11 July

Entries must address the theme “Evolution, Change, Challenge : A Contemporary Quilt” and measure 70x100cm (WxH) portrait format. Entry is via online entry form only and an entry fee of $25 per quilt is payable.  The closing date for entries is 24 July 2015.

Modern Quilt Show Australia – Call for entries, due 3 May 2015

Wollongong modern quilt guild logoThe Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild is presenting their second Modern Quilt Show. It is open to non-members as well as members of the Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild. Here are some details from the Guild:

Modern Quilt Show Australia

Kiama 29th-31st May 2015

Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild is proud to present the second Modern Quilt Show Australia.  Our aim is to showcase the finest modern quilts from around Australia.  In 2014 we brought together 150 modern quilts from across NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania for the very first modern quilt show in Australia.

This is a charity event, with proceeds donated to Grand Pacific Health’s Suicide Prevention Program.

New Modern Quilt Categories:
After the success of last year’s Modern Quilt Show Australia, we have introduced the following quilt categories to further highlight the modern aspects of quilting:

  • Improvisation
  • Minimalistic design
  • Use of negative space
  • Modern traditionalism
  • Group & working bee
  • Youth (school age children)

Quilt submissions for the Show are currently open. Last entries will be accepted at 11.59pm on Sunday 3rd May 2015

New Venue:
Located by the beach in picturesque Kiama, NSW, The Pavilion is a stunning new venue that is sure to impress. The main hall is light and airy, and the downstairs rooms will be used for workshops and lectures.

Opening Night:
This year, Modern Quilt Show Australia are hosting a special Opening Night event held 7pm – 9pm on Friday 29th May.  Entry for the event is $35 per person which includes refreshments. Due to catering requirements, tickets will only be available for purchase until Sunday 24th May. Workshops & Lectures:
Exciting workshops & lectures hosted by the lovely ladies of Material Obsession.

Food & Drinks:
The Pavilion is located only a short walk from the local cafes. On site we will have a sausage sizzle and drinks available, as well as a Barista with coffee and tea.
