New Exhibition at Erindale Library

March 13, 2019 | Posted in Exhibition | By

A new exhibition featuring the work of CQ member Jenny Cook is now hanging at the Erindale Library.  Jenny is a prize-winning quilter, with a prolific and varied output.  Her quilts make a striking exhibition in the library’s lofty ceiling space.  They will be in place until around the end of April.  I’m grateful to the members who provided quilts for the recent Seasons themed exhibition.

I’m developing ideas for themes for future exhibitions.  The theme for the second exhibition for 2019 (May to July) will be flowers and all things floral.  I would love to hear from you if you have a suitable quilt and are prepared to let me have it for the usual 3 months.  I would also love to hear from anyone who has an idea for themes for future exhibitions.

Art Quilts at The Q: 31 May-23 June

May 31, 2018 | Posted in Art quilts, exhibitions | By

Members may be interested in this exhibition, opening today. The Q exhibition space in Queanbeyan is hosting an exhibition of art quilts by Yvonne Line.

Join the artist for refreshments on Saturday 2 June at 11am

Yvonne Line is an International Award Winning Art Quilter who has been exploring the use of textiles in various forms since her mid-teens. Over many years, Yvonne’s focus has been on presenting art work as layered textiles, using remnants and recycled textiles and re-inventing them into a new form.  That which is discarded and seemingly useless, stir her imagination and form her pallet. Yvonne was a founding member of Quilt NSW and is current President of Ozquilt Network Inc. Australia’s premier art quilt organisation and a member of Macarthur Textile Network.
Australia – A Land of Contrasts is an exhibition showcasing Yvonne’s broad wealth of talent and experience working with textiles and portrays her interpretations and narratives of our wide brown land.

Challenge Theme 2018 – Blue and White

May 9, 2018 | Posted in CQ Exhibition | By

Challenge 2018:

Every year Canberra Quilters has a quilt challenge theme category at the exhibition. For 2018 the theme chosen by the main committee is ‘Blue & White’.

Members can choose to respond to the theme any way they like in their quilt as long as it meets the size requirements of 70cm x 50cm, portrait or landscape orientation. The challenge quilts generally travel as a group to other quilt groups during the subsequent year.

You are invited to make a quilt in the challenge format, incorporating the idea of ‘Blue & White’. You may choose to make it from all the shades and tones of blue, and white. Or you may focus on-

  • the sea /ocean / sky
  • something in the garden
  • blue and white china (Blue Willow, Delftware)
  • gemstones (blue diamond, sapphire)
  • bluesy music
  • choose an appropriate block or
  • play on the words

You have many paths you could follow in making your quilt.

Enter your items in the Annual Members Exhibition, held in August 2018. You have until June to submit an entry. The entry pack will be available in mid 2018 with Connecting Threads and online.

The challenge theme for 2019 has also been selected: “Off the Sheep’s Back”. So get ready for August 2019!
