Chairs missing- Can you help?

December 20, 2014 | Posted in Cook premises | By

Wanted Alive – the missing six chairs from the Canberra Quilters room. Without their return we don’t have enough to cater for the number of ‘bums for seats’ that some of our meetings attract. If you know the whereabouts of these poor unfortunates please report in or arrange their return. No reward offered, just our grateful thanks.

Starts today: resurfacing the back car park at Cook Community Hub

June 2, 2014 | Posted in Cook premises | By

Canberra Quilters are reminded that the resurfacing of the car park at the Cook Community Hub starts TODAY, Monday 2 June until Thursday 5 June.

The Community Services Directorate have advised the following:

To ensure the long term life and durability of the car park, Community Services Directorate has engaged a company to resurfase the car park with hot asphalt (which is also known as hot-mix). The use of asphalt will provide a far superior surface in the car park, as well as extend the life of the car parking area as a whole.

The resurfacing works will take 3 days to complete, and during this time there will be NO ACCESS to the car park. While the asphalt is being laid, the machinery used is noisy and the materials can smell bad. Also there will be large trucks driving in and out of Ellis street to deliver materials to the site.

The works will commence on Monday 2 June and go through until Thursday 5 June 2014, weather permitting.

Attached is a map outlining the area being resurfaced and alternative parking arrangements.

Working with pre-cuts – 5 June

June 2, 2013 | Posted in Cook premises, What's On | By

At the drop-in on the first Wednesday of the month the group explores working with pre-cut fabric.
These take many forms, including the jelly-rolls, layer cakes, honey buns and dessert rolls by Moda fabrics. Other manufacturers and fabric stores have variations on these – charm squares in different sizes, strips etc.
You don’t have to buy pre-cuts, you can cut your own or just use scraps.

The pre-cuts drop-in runs from 10 am until 1 pm, then regular drop-in from 1 pm until 4 pm. Some of us are using the space of the CQ room to work on our exhibition quilt at the drop-in.
