What a great day playing with procion dyes- safely of course. Teacher Mary Kennedy shared her enthusiasm for all colours bright and beautiful with Canberra Quilters on Saturday 29th March. The rain held off for the day, and the washed out fat quarters fluttered in the breeze in time to take them home dry.
Workshoppers brought their patterned dyeing samples to the evening meeting in March. (hint hint)
Students were so keen, they have requested a follow up class, so check the website for details for an Advanced Dyers Workshop. Another beginners session will also be run before this for those who missed out this time.

An information sheet is now available for the Sharing Session on Saturday February 1st from 10am till 1pm. Contact the workshop coordinator for the Requirements list and to confirm your attendance. $5 for the session.
Are you interested in asking questions about die cutting machines, making a small project with the help of a die cutting machine or learning some new tips and tricks about die cutting machines? Great for piecers; fabulous for appliquers. Stay tune for some sessions in February 2014 which could inspire your creativity.
Over sixty Canberra Quilters were privileged to learn from master craftsmen Hany and Ekramy from Cairo’s Chareh El- Khiamiah: The Tentmaker’s street. Sponsor, Jenny Bowker suggested that quilters learn the basics of this style of applique as the Egyptians practise the art, so we marked patterns with needles and awls, transferred patterns with cinnamon and talc and tried our hardest to sew faster on the canvas backed cotton backgrounds with long threads.
Jenny provided an inciteful commentry, and storytelling so that we could more fully understand the traditions and background of this traditional quilt form.
The room was awash with gorgeous multicoloured and truly amazing quilt works which were available for sale on Thursday night.
Are you interested in learning about creating embellished dimensional artworks or hand painting with procion dyes, making silk paper and raw edge applique techniques?
