Evening Meeting- 3 May

The evening meeting is this Thursday, 3 May, 7pm for a 7.30pm start, in the Hall at the Cook Community Hub. The meeting starts with formal committee (and other) reports and news, followed by an activity.

Come and join us for a fun night with a few new things planned:

  • We’ll hear from Didee Knight about the Quilt Register
  • Bring a pen for some creativity,
  • Have a question about the Annual Exhibition?  This will be the night to ask

Don’t forget to pick up some raffle tickets to sell. The proceeds of the raffle support Canberra Quilters with the operating expenses of running our room, our activities and the exhibition. It is a very important fundraiser.

Please bring something along for show & tell. We all like to see what everyone is working on.

All the usual meeting fun – lucky door prize, badge draw, raffle and regular show and tell. Don’t forget to stay and chat over a cuppa and check out the show and tell.

Art Quilters meeting – 10 February

The next meeting is on Saturday 10 February, 1-4pm, in the CQ room at Cook Community Hub.

We have a new challenge for you …

One 12″ or 30cm square quilt for the first four months starting your first show & tell at the February meeting. These will be inspired by your travels. Kerry is way ahead of us and has already made a gorgeous quilt with a guinea fowl from Africa starring. You probably haven’t been to Africa, but maybe Thailand or Tasmania or the Great Barrier Reef???

Please bring any other show & tell, books, magazines and websites. You are asked to bring your first quilt (or UFO) to show & tell.

Wonderful Wednesday in the Ballet School – 16 August

The next meeting is this Wednesday, 16 August in the Ballet School at the Cook Community Hub , from 9.30am until 12.30pm. It is followed by a drop-in at the CQ room until 4pm, when the library will be open. The Hall is being used for ballet exams so we have swapped venues for this month only. So break out the tutus and tiaras!

This month’s special show & tell is your exhibition quilts and creative clothing. Bring it along to show for those who couldn’t make it, or want to revisit the splendour. Don’t forget to bring something for regular show & tell.

For new members, Wonderful Wednesday is held on the third Wednesday of each month except December, normally in the Hub Hall from 9.30am till 12.30pm. It is a good opportunity to do some handwork and meet for a chat. We have Raffles, Lucky Door Prize, Name Badge Draw, some of the most wonderful morning tea fare and of course a themed Show and Tell plus the regular Show and Tell. If you are a newcomer or you haven’t been for a while PLEASE come and sit at Christine’s table (WW convener) where ever that may be, until you get better acquainted with the other members.

This month there is a special show & tell –  favourite quilts! We have assembled a panel of Canberra Quilters members to talk about their favourite quilts and you might be surprised to see what they are. We’ll also be asking you to bring your favourite quilts along and share the stories behind why they are your favourite. Get to know your fellow members through their favourite quilts.

Please bring something along for regular show & tell – we all like to see what everyone is working on.

All the usual meeting fun- lucky door prize, badge draw, raffle and regular show and tell. Don’t forget to stay and chat over a cuppa and check out the show and tell.

Don’t forget to pick up a book of tickets for the exhibition raffle – funds raised support Canberra Quilters activities. The raffle co-ordinator is looking for volunteers to sell tickets at two upcoming events: The Addicted to Fabric Sale, on Friday and Saturday, and the Creative Fibre Day at the Old Bus Depot Markets on Sunday 9 July.

Library will be open for this meeting so come along to return books and borrow more.

Art Quilters Meeting – 8 April

Connect and Participate Expo – 25 March

Wonderful Wednesday meeting- 15 March

This is the Bring and Buy morning, so bring your goods (excess fabric, threads, patterns, books etc) to sell – or bring your money to buy.

Members who had quilts in the Royal Canberra Show are encouraged to bring them for special show & tell. Don’t forget to bring something for regular show & tell.

Wonderful Wednesday Meeting – 15 February

The next Wonderful Wednesday meeting is on 15 February, from 9.30am-12.30pm in the Cook Community Hub Hall. It is followed by the drop-in in the CQ room, until 4pm.

The WW meeting is a sit and sew meeting, with a more formal stage after 11am. So bring along some handwork to do, e.g. knitting, crocheting, piecing etc. We have raffles, lucky door prizes, name badge draw, some wonderful morning tea fare and of course a themed show and tell, plus the regular show and tell. If you are a newcomer or you haven’t been for a while PLEASE come and sit with the convenor Christine Stewart’s table near the stage, until you get better acquainted with the other members.

The special show & tell will be Japanese quilts and objects , plus Creative Clothing displaying what they have made. The Japanese could be quilts made with Japanese fabric, in a Japanese style or it could be something you have made in the Small Japanese Projects group.

This month is the teachers and sponsors evening so come along to see what they have to offer this yar.

Special show & tell – 40th Anniversary: Quilts from the decade 2006-2016. Hosted by Jenny Emerton. Quilts that were on display at the Erindale Library will be returned, but included in this show & tell. If you have a quilt(s) made in this decade please bring them along to show.

Don’t forget that membership renewals are now overdue. CQ works on a calendar year for its financial year, so 1 January is renewal day. The Membership Secretary will be at the meeting to accept your payment and paperwork, or you can do it online.
