Call for entries – various opportunities

There are several opportunities this year for members to enter selected competitions /exhibitions:

  1. World Quilt Competition 2017

Australian entries for the World Quilt Competition 2017  are now open. Share your artwork on the international stage, and let someone else look after logistics, shipping, customs and insurance!   Entries close on Monday, 15 May 2017. Accepted entries will premiere at World Quilt New England  (17-19 August 2017) and tour to other Mancuso shows in the United States until early 2018.

Entries can be submitted via the Online Entry Form. Alternatively, download, complete and return the World Quilt Competition 2017 Entry Form – Australian Edition (PDF) by e-mail or post. Be aware that your quilt must be at least 1296 square inches (eg 36x36in)  and completed in 2015, 2016 or 2017.  See the Contest Rules for more information.

  1. Art Quilt Australia 2017

Art Quilt Australia 2017 is open to residents of Australia and New Zealand and OZQN (Ozquilt Network) members worldwide. Entries close on 7 June 2017. Submission is via the online entry form or by postal mail only.

The exhibition will be held at the prestigious Queen Victoria Art Gallery, Launceston, Tasmania from Friday 7 September to Sunday 22 October 2017 and will be documented in a comprehensive catalogue.

Art Quilt Australia 2017 is a juried exhibition with $6000 in prize money.  All selected entries are automatically eligible for consideration for the $3000 Award of Excellence (non-acquisitive). Entrants submitting complying wool quilts (see below) may also nominate their work for the $3000 Expressions:Wool Quilt Prize where the winning work is acquired by the National Wool Museum for its permanent collection.

3. Australian Quilts in Public Places – AQIPP 2017

Quilters are invited to demonstrate their talents and originality in interpreting the theme:


16 November-21 December 2017

Whitehorse Artspace, Box Hill, Melbourne VIC.

AQIPP is a juried, judged and sponsored exhibition which is open to all quilters in Australia.

  1. Tasmanian Art Quilt Prize 2018

A collaborative program between the Tasmanian Quilting Guild & the Maritime Museum of Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Art Quilt Prize 2018 Exhibition will be held in the Carnegie Gallery at the Maritime Museum of Tasmania in Hobart from Tuesday 1st May to Sunday 3rd June 2018.

The Tasmanian Art Quilt Prize is open to textile artists across Australia. This biennial exhibition aims to promote best practice in art quilting and encourage experimentation by presenting new and exciting textile art. There is an additional category of Textile Sculpture.

The theme is ‘Ebb and Flow’. Entries close on 5 March 2018.

Map Project textile exhibition- Belconnen Arts Centre

Members may be interested in this opportunity from Belconnen Arts Centre (The Map Project – Where I Live):

Textile groups from the ACT and region are invited to respond collaboratively to the concept of: “mapping: where I live;” by exploring ideas of home, place and belonging. Entrants are encouraged to engage playfully, thoughtfully, radically, or somewhere in between. We invite investigation and interpretation of geography, culture, history and community relationships along with the personal perceptions and meanings of living and being at home through the tactile, rich and varied medium of textiles.

AQC challenge 2016

Challenge yourself and explore your creativity within a theme in this prestigious annual challenge.

The theme is ‘Tradition with a Twist’ and if selected as a finalist, your quilt will tour Australia and New Zealand throughout the year. A prize pool of $5,500 is up for grabs with winners awarded on interpretation of theme, excellence in design, craftsmanship, and a Viewers’ Choice.

Quilt size is 90cm square.

AQC 2016 paws

Mini-Textile Art Challenge: Paws & Whiskers

We invite you to show your best friend in their best light, in textiles!

Traditional and contemporary works using creative textile techniques including patchwork, embroidery, appliqué, surface design, photo transfer, printing, etc, will all be considered. The winner will receive a fabulous Fiskars prize pack valued at more than $200.

The work must have at least two layers and the size is 25cm square.

Millefiore Magic

If you have completed a kaleidoscope quilt and would like to be part of the AQC Quilt Show, send information and an image of your quilt for consideration. This is a non-judged exhibition – our aim is to create a spectacular display of millefiore colour.

Your quilt does not need to be finished for online entry, but if selected for display it must be finished and sent to Expertise Events before March 25, 2016.

Quilt can be any size and does not have to be your original design.

Royal Canberra Show 2016 – entries due soon

Entries for the quilting and patchwork categories in the Royal Canberra Show are due on 17 December (Thursday). After that entries attract a late fee of $20. The normal entry fee is $8 for the first entry & $5 for each additional entry. Entrants over 65 years of age have a flat rate of $4 per entry.

Art Quilters Meeting – 11 July

Next meeting this Saturday, 11th at 1pm in the CQ room. Wilma will show how to develop an artist’s project notebook with drawing of plans and the recording of process. Don’t forget show and tell, interesting books, magazines and websites.

  • Art Quilt Australia and the Wool Corporation deadline 7th August see
  • The Quilters’ Guild of NSW Inc. invites entries for a juried contemporary quilt exhibition to be held at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre from 29 August-8 September 2015. Entries are open to quilters and fibre artists from all Australian states and territories. Membership of the Guild is not a requirement of entry. Entries must address the theme “Evolution, Change, Challenge : A Contemporary Quilt” and measure 70x100cm (WxH) portrait format. Entry is via online entry form only and an entry fee of $25 per quilt is payable.  The closing date for entries is 24 July 2015.
