Medieval Illumination: This workshop will cover all aspects of medieval illustration with practical application. Our starting point will be the Aberdeen Bestiary from the Bodleian Library Oxford. We will work on vellum or 300gsm hot-press paper using Kremer Pigments and recreate a delightful animal, bird or other from this magnificent medieval manuscript. The class is suitable for intermediate and beginner students alike.
Gemma is a maker of written artefacts working in the decorative & drawing arts. She runs a studio-based arts practice from her home base in Tasmania. For many years Gemma has taught nationally and internationally. She has joined the faculty of lettering-art conferences in Australia, the USA, Canada, Germany, Italy and the UK. Her work hangs in private and public collections including the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK. The European Parliament and Parliament House, Canberra. Gemma creates letterforms from all genres and enjoys her journey in calligraphy, type and contemporary lettering. She is a Churchill Fellow and a CLAS UK Fellow.
