The regular meeting timeslot is from 10.00am to 4.00pm on the second Thursday of each month from February until December. Time is allocated for the following:
- Issues for discussion such as challenges, exhibition details, etc
- A “show and tell” when members share books, magazines, patterns, projects and fabrics
- Demonstrations of techniques such as making embellishments using soluble stabilizer or creating fabric using digital images
- Time to work on projects for challenges or the exhibition
Challenge– the group is conducting a challenge to make a pair of fingerless mittens that can be entered in the accessories category in the annual members’ exhibition. They need to be cloth-based (not knitted or crocheted) and can incorporate all sorts of fabric manipulation and embellishment. In this case a pair doesn’t mean they have to be identical – you just need one for each hand. If you do a search on ‘fingerless mittens sewing pattern’ you will find lots of ideas and patterns. Commercial patterns are also available, such as Vogue 8966
