Small Japanese Projects – 25 January

January 23, 2017 | Posted in Meetings | By

The Small Japanese Projects group resumes meeting this Wednesday morning from 10am until 12 noon, in the Canberra Quilters room at Cook Community Hub.

The meeting will start with show & tell of all the things you have made (or purchased, discovered) since the last meeting.

The project that will be a Japanese biscornu (a small pin cushion or ornament). Di Ballantyne will be leading the demo. New co-ordinator Karen has sent out a requirements list to the usual participants. If you want to come along for a try, here is what you need to bring:

  • 2 coordinating squares of fabric both of which are the same size and measure somewhere between 3½” square up to 7” square. (Charm squares also work for this project).
  • Usual sewing supplies (Biscornu’s can be assembled by hand or by machine).
  • To finish your biscornu, you will need stuffing and any decorations that you might like to add once assembled.

Biscornu is French word meaning ‘quirky’ and within the world of stitchers, usually means a small eight-sided pillow. These little shapes can be used as pincushions, ornament decorations, scissor fobs, scent sachet, brooch pillow, or anything else. They can be very small through to larger sizes, depending on the size of the fabric squares that you start with, and of course the intended end purpose.
