Evening Meeting: 4 April

The evening meeting is this Thursday, 4 April, 7pm for a 7.30pm start, in the Hall at the Cook Community Hub. The meeting starts with formal committee (and other) reports and news, followed by an activity.

Guest speaker will be long time sponsor Trevor Robertson, AKA the Scissorman. Come along to learn about scissors, cutters and other gadgets.

Please bring something along for show & tell. We all like to see what everyone is working on.

You can also pick up your exhibition raffle tickets. If every member sells a book we will be well on the way to a great fund raising effort. Funds raised support Canberra Quilters ongoing operations.

All the usual meeting fun – lucky door prize, badge draw, raffle and regular show and tell. Don’t forget to stay and chat over a cuppa and check out the show and tell.

Wonderful Wednesday Meeting – 20 March

The next meeting is this Wednesday, 20 March, in the Hall at the Cook Community Hub, from 9.30am until 12.30pm. It is followed by a drop-in at the Canberra Quilters room. The library is open for the first half of the drop-in.

This drop-in is also when the Appliqué Group meets. The Appliqué Group is for members who like to do appliqué – learning from each other, getting help or working on a current project. You don’t have to be part of this group to come to the drop-in.

It is the bring and buy meeting, so bring sewing related supplies to sell, or bring your money.

Don’t forget to bring something for regular show & tell.

MEMEBERSHIP REMINDER. Membership fees were due on 1 January. You can join online or at the meeting. You need to be a member to borrow from the library, use the room and its facilities regularly, stand for the committee or exhibit and sell in the exhibition (by 31 March).

For new members, Wonderful Wednesday is held on the third Wednesday of each month except December, normally in the Hub Hall from 9.30am till 12.30pm. It is a good opportunity to do some handwork and meet for a chat. We have Raffles, Lucky Door Prize, and Name Badge Draw, some of the most wonderful morning tea fare and a themed Show and Tell plus the regular Show and Tell.

If you are a newcomer or you haven’t been for a while PLEASE come and sit at Christine’s table (WW convener) where ever that may be, until you get better acquainted with the other members.

Membership Renewal- Don’t forget membership fee was due on 1 January. Renew at the meeting or online. You need to be a member to stand for the AGM in March. You also need to be a member by 31 March in order to exhibit or sell at the Annual Exhibition in August.

The library fund raising sale is on. Funds raised go to future library purchases. Donations of books, patterns, DVDs, quilting knick knacks are welcome (no fabric or magazines). Books excess to the library, and donated books and other media will be for sale in the Hall, for reasonable prices. Unsold items will be for sale at the February Wonderful Wednesday meeting. Come along to pick up a bargain!

Joan Porta will be speaking about the Blankets of Love program. Joan has handed over the co-ordinator’s baton to Kay Provins.

This is the first meeting of the year. The ROWmakers design group are bringing their quilts/tops etc from previous years for special show and tell. Don’t forget to bring something for regular show & tell.

Something to share with the Toy and Gift Drive, something for us with the Fat Quarter Swap, special Show and Tell with a Christmas theme, and Christmas supper – please bring a plate if you can!

This is the final meeting of the year. If you choose to do so, you can decorate your table (or yourself) with a Christmas theme. Don’t forget a small plate of food to share. Donations will be accepted of unwrapped toys toiletries. These will be donated to shelters. There will also be an opportunity to make a financial donation.
