Wonderful Wednesday meeting – 18 October

October 15, 2017 | Posted in Meetings | By

The next meeting is this Wednesday, 18 October, in the Hall at the Cook Community Hub, from 9.30am until 12.30pm. It is followed by a drop-in the Canberra Quilters room, where the library will be open. This drop-in will also be when the newly formed Applique Group will meet. You don’t have to be part of this group to come to the drop-in.

It is Bring and Buy this month. So bring your excess fabric supplies, thread, tools, books, magazines. As a trial this time you can bring made items (fabric related) to sell as well – like the sales room at the exhibition! If you aren’t selling- bring your cash as you might find a bargain, or a Christmas present.

Don’t forget to bring something for show & tell.

The missing Kaffe Fassett book mentioned last month has been found and returned.

For new members, Wonderful Wednesday is held on the third Wednesday of each month except December, normally in the Hub Hall from 9.30am till 12.30pm. It is a good opportunity to do some handwork and meet for a chat. We have Raffles, Lucky Door Prize, Name Badge Draw, some of the most wonderful morning tea fare and a themed Show and Tell plus the regular Show and Tell.

If you are a newcomer or you haven’t been for a while PLEASE come and sit at Christine’s table (WW convener) where ever that may be, until you get better acquainted with the other members.

ROWmakers meeting – 11 October

October 7, 2017 | Posted in Drop-in, Meetings, Row-by-row Challenge | By

Next meeting is on Wednesday 11 October, 10am for a 10.30am start, in the CQ room at the Cook Community Hub.  It is followed by a drop-in, until 4pm. So you can stay all day to sew.

A quilt is made over the year by each member making their own rows, or blocks or items like bags. A list of ingredients is released at the beginning of the year and at each meeting two items are chosen to incorporate into that month’s design challenge. One will be a colour and one will be an additive. For instance- each row contains two “ingredients”, e.g. purple and geometry, but in whatever way the maker chooses. As the name shows, this can be a noisy group! So far we have had:

# Colours Additives Inspirations
1 Turquoise Paints/ pencils/ dyes/ ink Letters
2 Red Recycled/ leftovers/ found objects Earth, water, fire and air
3 Purple Geometry Celebrations
4 Yellow Threads/ Stitches Opposites
5 Green Embellishments Animal, vegetable, mineral
6 Pink Linen / silk/ lace Heritage, tradition
7 Neutral Print/ words Numbers
8 Orange Improvisation Home and family

(Remember that you can choose an INSPIRATION for the whole year or be inspired by what’s chosen on a month-by-month basis. Up to you.)

Here are some images from our last meeting on 13 September.

Felicity, a member living in Germany, has jumped ahead to finish her response so that the baby can enjoy the quilt.
