Learn to Quilt – an introduction to the basics

Canberra Quilters’ next Introduction to Patchwork and Quilting Workshop will be held on Saturday, September 30th, from 9.30am until 4pm.

We will explain about quilting tools such as rotary cutters, cutting mats, rulers, even the importance of different needles and threads.

We will talk about fabric selection: quality, colour value

You will look at the building blocks or construction of a quilt. Strips, squares, triangles & rectangles and make 2 or 3 blocks to start your first quilt.

We will have an appliqué ‘expert’ available to demonstrate this style of patchwork and you will have a go at constructing an Appliqué block.

We will also give an overview of:-

  • joining blocks, including using sashing and borders.
  • the quilt sandwich – batting and pinning your quilt layers
  • binding/ finishing your quilt.

Cost of the day is $50 and includes, all fabrics, use of machines and tools, plus morning tea. To register your interest please email our Workshop Coordinator workshops@canberraquilters.org.au
